The good people at Serious Eats have created a marvelous guide to the hops of the world. It’s organized by growing region (Germany, Australia, the US, etc.) and lists some key hops and their flavor profiles (“Simcoe use runs rampant through the world of hoppy American beers. Its intense and complex aroma is often compared to grapefruit, pine, sweet onion, and tropical fruit”). It’s certainly more informative than my own little hop guide, isn’t it? Go read the whole thing here.
(Thanks to Matt, who generally ignores the advice of beer tour guides and scarfs down the sample hops that are offered around for sniffing only. “Don’t eat these? Screw that!”)
