The Brewers Association released their list of the top 50 craft breweries of 2014 recently, and it was politely pointed out that I was late to the game. Whoops. Anyway, here it is. The top ten are Yuengling, Boston Beer Co., Sierra Nevada, New Belgium, Gambrinus, Lagunitas, Deschutes, Bell’s, Stone, and Minhas. As it happens, all of these joints are also in the top 20 of overall breweries, making one wonder what the point of these lists are anyway. And recall that “craft brewer” is now defined as having “annual production of 6 million barrels of beer or less” which, let’s face it, is a lot of goddamn beer. I’d also like to point out that I have yet to actually enjoy a single beer brewed by Minhas. I am a cranky bastard.
