Drinking in the Funny Pages: Sick, Sick, Sick

I’ve been trying to figure out just what Hagar and Eddie mean by “down and dirty” here. I mean, I know that a dirty martini involves the addition of olive brine, but that can’t possibly be what Hagar is asking for, right? Rum with olive brine? Disgusting. The bartender appears to be encrusted with filth, but that would imply that “dirty” is just the standard manner in which cocktails are served, so there’s no need for Hagar to add that to his order. It’s all very confusing. Perhaps a bartending professional can shed some light on this.

Lucky Eddie, on the other hand, is simply making a sick and inappropriate joke about Shirley Temple’s recent death. Too soon, Eddie. Too soon.
