WHAT HAVE YOU THERE? I’m surprised to say that I’m enjoying the Boulder Gold Hefeweizen from Brewer’s Cafe which is part of the Barley’s Casino and Brewing Co. Also included—a sports book.

BARLEY’S CASINO AND BREWING CO.? WHERE THE HELL IS THAT? Henderson, Nevada.

YOU’RE RATHER FAR AFIELD, IT SEEMS. The wife and I are visiting her parents who left the Midwest for the retirement-friendly environs of the Las Vegas metropolitan area.

YOU LUCKY DEVIL. ENJOYING YOURSELF? Somehow, I was able to talk my way out of a trip to the lunch buffet at the local casino. Instead, we found our way to the only brewpub in this giant suburban hellhole.

SO HOW’S THE HEFEWEIZEN? They either believe strongly enough in this beer to not include the lemon, or they forgot, and that’s okay. It’s actually a really solid hefe. The banana-clove-circus peanut esters that turn off many people are present but nicely restrained. It would be a really good summertime deck-drinking beer.

AND THE REST OF THE JOINT? The food was barely acceptable, but hell, they’ve got slots, video poker, sports betting, smoking, and beer.

WELL THAT’S ALL YOU NEED, RIGHT? And tremendous ambiance.
