Instant Beer Review: New Belgium Coconut Curry Hefeweizen

YOU AGAIN. Indeed. It is I. And do I have a doozy for you.

DO YOU REALLY, NOW? I do, sir.

I’LL BITE. WHAT’S ON TAP TODAY? A coconut curry hefeweizen from New Belgium.

ALRIGHTY THEN. WHAT’S IT CALLED? Um, Coconut Curry Hefeweizen? It’s a part of New Belgian’s ‘Lips Of Faith’ series of limited release beers.

OH. OKAY. It’s not the most creative title to bestow upon a beer, I will grant you that, but this beer is frickin’ awesome!

A COCONUT CURRY HEFEWEIZEN. Yes!

ARE YOU DRUNK, YOU BIG DUMB WEIRDO? No!

REALLY? Yes! It’s just so crazy, it works. The nose is big and floral, and all of the flavors commingle in harmony like Crosby, Stills, and Nash.

The aroma is bold and big with coconut and curry tones and a hint of banana from the hefe yeast. With a vast spice list of cinnamon, coriander, fenugreek, ginger, kaffir lime, and cayenne pepper this beer carries a bit of heat but the alcohol soothes the finish. Coconut Curry Hefe will leave an inquisitive smile on the drinker’s mug.

AN INQUISITIVE…SOMETHING…. IS IT REALLY GOOD? It is really extraordinary. The most perfectly crafted beer I’ve had in I don’t even know how long.

NO BULLSHIT? I wouldn’t cry beer-wolf on you, Voice Inside My Head. I know, it’s rare for me to exhibit enthusiasm of any sort, but this beer is really good. The CCH is a perfect summer sipper, now that the weather has finally begun to resemble spring/summer.

ABV? 8%, according to NB’s website.

WHERE MIGHT I OBTAIN THIS BREW? I’m at Dexter’s! The beer’s going for $6.75/12 oz. pour. It’s on tap here! I don’t know for how long!

SO, HURRY? Yes! Hurry! Or at least make an attempt at grabbing some at your favorite liquor provider/store.

DEEP THOUGHTS? Two of these things have made me feel fuzzy.

ANY LESS-DEEP THOUGHTS? New Belgium has crafted a damn near-perfect warm weather brew for the more sophisticated of palates. And for less-adventurous beer drinkers as well, for that matter. This Frankenstein concoction of coconut and curry and herbs and stuff is sure to please a vast array of beer consumers. Get some in you immediately.

I’M STILL TAKEN ABACK BY THIS OUTPOURING OF ENTHUSIASM. Don’t get used to it, VIMH. It won’t last.
