Instant Beer Review: Sasquash Pumpkin Porter

IS THAT A GUINNESS? Why no, it’s not. It’s a Sasquash from Milwaukee Brewing Company.

WHAT? BUT IT’S ST. PATRICK’S DAY! Accurate. And I’m not wearing any green, either. Screw you, society! I did just eat some corned beef and cabbage, though.

WHAT’S THE BEER? It’s a porter brewed with pumpkin, sweet potatoes, and pumpkin pie spices.

SEEMS… WRONG, SEASONALLY SPEAKING. Agreed. But this has been the winter that won’t end, so I may as well drink a beer suited for the frigid holidays.

HOW IS IT? Not bad. Decent body. Quite malty. The spices are notable but not overwhelming. The pumpkin flavor tends to get a bit lost in the mix, but it’s there.

AND HOW DOES IT PAIR WITH CORNED BEEF? Surprisingly well, though I don’t think I’m starting a trend.

HOW MANY TIMES DID YOUR BARTENDER FIELD REQUESTS FOR GUINNESS TODAY? “Just once!” he reports with surprise and delight. “I’m shocked!”

DEEP THOUGHTS: This beer falls a bit too far on the sweet side for me, but it ain’t bad. One is enough for now. I have a whole day of drinking ahead.

WHAT’S NEXT? GREEN BEER? Shut your mouth, heathen.
