I deal with a lot of liquor reps. Most of these liquor reps are people whom I admire greatly. We bullshit a little, they order me what I need, everyone’s happy. The only major beef I’ve got with liquor reps is that liquor reps keep trying to sell me stuff I don’t want. Which, to be fair, is not their fault–it’s their job. Nevertheless, it baffles and saddens me greatly, no matter who is responsible for such abominations, that there is actually a market for things like Froot Loops-flavored vodka and whiskey that tastes like Atomic Fireballs.
Whatever happened to whiskey-flavored whiskey and vodka-flavored vodka?
Every now and then, however, somebody stops in with something to sample that doesn’t make me want to retch into a bucket and pray for mercy. Enter Bruichladdich (pronounced brook-laddie). I had the pleasure of tasting this line of fine Scotch whiskeys this past Tuesday, and it was an unexpected treat. These whiskeys are newly distributed in Wisconsin, so keep your eyes peeled at your local liquor store.
