Science: Prairie Voles and Inebriated Love

Last week’s episode of Science Friday shed some light on a topic that is near and dear to my heart: drunk love. Most of us have felt the effects of what alcohol does to our inhibitions and libido, but how do these “boozy romantic encounters work on a romantic level?” In order to answer this question, guest Allison Anacker, a postdoctoral fellow and lecturer in neuroscience at Smith College, got some male and female prairie voles together and got them loaded. Which sounds absolutely ridiculous, but you’ve gotta give this a listen because it’s frickin’ fascinating. It turns out humans aren’t the only species out there that are inclined to getting smashed, resulting in casual hookups that lead to awkward emotional stress and confusion….
