On this day in 1824, Gottlieb Heileman was born in Wurttemberg, Germany. In 1858 he formed the City Brewing Company, later renamed the G. Heileman Brewing Company. Heileman, of course, was the brewer of Old Style, beloved beverage of Cubs fans everywhere. Heileman was sold to Stroh’s in 1994, which in turn was busted up in 2000. Pabst now owns some of the Heileman brands, including Old Style. So raise a glass (or tall boy) of fully krausened lager in honor of ol’ Gottlieb.
